This is most likely a "knock-off" of one from the mid-90's!

    Comments about this product:

I bought the "original" one of these around '95' from the Franklin Mint. Came with a leather bound case with padding inside for the pieces. It cost around $600 then. This one looks identical to the one I own. I'm not sure about this one here, but my pieces are pretty heavy but most likely coated, and the base is solid and sturdy. The platforms, however, feel like cheap plexi with etched areas that are then painted. My "care instructions" specifically said NOT to use cleaner on the surfaces. Only water. I have had mine for, quite literally, 20+ years and it still looks brand new. I do keep it in it's box most of the time but it does stay out for months at a time.

The real prop looked nothing like this!

    Comments about this product:

I will keep dreaming bcz for one thing the price is waaay to astronomical!!!
The second reason I won't get this is bcz it looks cheap, and nothing like the original prop!
In someone else's comments you can see a picture of the original. It has normal, heavy looking pieces that are the usual black and white. And the stand looks like stainless steel. The board would have been glass bcz I don't believe they had acrylic in the 60s like what they're using here. And in the picture w/Charlie and Spock, the board doesn't look like it's going to fall apart.
It shouldn't fall apart for over $200!!! Or, look like it's going to!!!
No, I will not be buying this item. I will wait for a better reproduction.

    An Unpleasant Reality

    By

    Comments about this product:

Now just look at how dishonest American retail capitalism is by this post below. Just because it is the exact replica regardless of the materials used to make it or how cheap the labor was. This price is insane

    Comments about this product:

I really liked the look of this Tridimensional Chess Set, the colors, the gold support/handle, the 3 large acrylic levels, the base, and specially the pieces. I didn't like the fact that I received it defective. The lower level was not placed to fit in the one peg that would have made it level. When the small gold cap was placed or glued on crooked the entire lower level leaned back and was not level. One of the smaller levels was not affixed to the peg so it kept coming out, it would have had to be glued on. The other drawback was that the set was too small. The pieces were the size of a travel chess set. The set looked like it was about half the size of the real set used on the series. Given the size I feel the cost was just not worth it. Unfortunately because of the defective issues and partially the small size I returned the set.

      Comments about this product:

This is the Franklin Mint chess set from years back. The pieces match the designs given in the Franz Joseph Designs Star Trek Technical manual, and it really is a beautiful set.

      There are two problems:
      1. The set is too small. The pieces are sized for a traveling chess set, and the boards to match. For someone with big hands, the set is awkward to play.
      2. Chess is a simple game to learn. Piece movement is very basic. The rules for the attack board should be as simple, but they aren't Those rules are conditional and complex. I've simplified them to this: If a player is in control of an attack board (piece(s) on it), he can move the board 1 peg in any direction as his turn. If the attack board is contested (both players on the board) or empty (no piece(s)), the board cannot be moved by either player. That's it.

      A Lifetime of Desire

      By

      from Reynoldsville PA

      Comments about this product:

I have long wanted this very chess set. I have played 3-D chess and done very well at playing it. And wished the powers that be would offer the Star Trek Multi-level chess set for sale. I would wholeheartedly recommend this chess for any serious chess player and to anyone wishing to think in alternative ways.

          Comments about this product:

I've owned this set for a while and have enjoyed it very much. I like the real gold inlay in the playing board, the playing pieces are heavy and have a very quality feel. I'm pretty choosy about the items I collect, In my opinion, this is a great addition to my collection and worth the money.
